DO MORE

Dachshunds are the breed permitted to compete in the most AKC-sanctioned events: Conformation, Obedience, Agility, Rally, Coursing and FastCAT, Barn Hunt, EarthDog, Dachshund Field Trials, Scent Work, Canine Good Citizen tests, Trick Dog, Fit Dog, and Tracking. While most of these events are open to all breeds, only Dachshunds can compete in Dachshund Field Trials, and Dachshunds and Miniature Pinchers are the only non-terrier breeds permitted to compete in Earth Dog.

CONFORMATION SHOWS

The Florida Gulf Coast Dachshund Club produces a Dachshund-only Specialty at the Brooksville, Florida AKC all-breed shows in January. The next show is January 17 – 19, 2025. The sweepstakes judges will be Kim Norton and Dan Stolz and the all-variety and junior showmanship judges will be Ken Hagmueller and Robin Mathews.

Entry information is here!

FASTCAT

Sprinting activities like FastCAT are very popular and Dachshunds — while not the fastest of all breeds — are certainly the one who look most like an inchworm when competing! You can find FastCAT events on the AKC Event Search. Learn more about the sport here.

Barn Hunt

Dogs compete by identifying live rats (safely contained in dog-proof tubes) in bales of straw. Dachshunds are scent hounds and so excel in this work. Watch Dachshunds discovering Barn Hunt here!

Field trials

Many of our members are active in the Dachshund Field Trials held twice a year in Roberta, Georgia (the closest field to Florida). The 2025 Field Trials will be held March  20 – 23, 2025 & October 16 – 19, 2025.
